What is Polished Concrete?

A polished concrete floor has a glossy, mirror-like finish. The design options for Polished Concrete are vast. You can choose nearly many colors, and create patterns with  saw cuts. The reflectiveness of the floor can also be controlled by  using different levels of concrete polishing.

Polished  concrete is a great option for areas with high forklift traffic too.  That’s because the chemicals used to polish the concrete are baked into  the concrete. Therefore, there isn’t anything to break, fail, etc.

Epoxy systems can break under the heavy forklift traffic. Not Polished Concrete. You don’t have to worry about Vapor Emissions, or “Efflorescence”. The vapors (if you have them) can just pass right through. The down side to Polished Concrete, is that it can, and will get worn out.  It should be maintained with a flooring machine at regular intervals.

The Process

The  Polished Concrete process begins with the use of coarse diamond segments. These segments  are coarse enough to remove minor pits, blemishes, stains, or light  coatings from the floor in preparation for final smoothing. Depending on  the condition of the concrete, this initial rough grinding is generally  a three-to four-step process.

Note: When specifying polished concrete, it is important to understand that  polishing a new or existing concrete slab can expose many imperfections  which include cracks, spalls, color and texture variations. An existing  concrete slab may also be aged, deteriorated and unable to be used.

Once  we have gone through the polishing process, a sealer is applied. The  sealer, or “Densifier” sinks deep into the concrete and is invisible to  the naked eye.

Finally, the last step in the polished concrete is the “Burnishing”. A  “Burnisher” is a large, high speed polisher, basically. Much like you  see used when detailing cars. Burnishing not only protects the concrete  from the inside out, it also hardens and “densifies” the concrete. This  eliminates the need for a topical coating, which reduces maintenance significantly, and gives it it’s high gloss.

"Justin and team did an outstanding job. They communicated quickly and  effectively up front, were prompt and did an excellent job. And their price came in right in the middle of the three  estimates we received. We highly recommend them".  4/4/2017

The advantages of Polished Concrete

  • Beautiful Modern Style
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Concrete Stain Applicable
  • Cost Effective
  • Manageable

Chemically Treated Concrete:

Virtually the same as polished concrete. The prep and finish is almost identical. The only difference is the finish. Once you are done with the grinding and patching process, you just soak the concrete in a “Densifier”and leave it. You get all of the function of a polished concrete, without the high gloss.
